These people were "violeters" of the English language

     There was one sign... a sign to rule them all. We found this typo at the heart of the eternal city, at a historic landmark that has survived centuries of decay but has now been the subject of serious slander by this one sign.
     That's right. There is a typo in the welcome sign at the Colosseum in Rome, Italy.

Violetors   

  This one isn't a funny translation error. It's an obvious and glaring misspelling of a normal word. On any other sign in any other place, it wouldn't be a big deal. But it was the freaking Colosseum. Just like so many people survived back-breaking labor to build the Colosseum, many modern people's efforts went into the preservation of the landmark. There had to be countless people reading and rereading the signs, making sure they were phrased to correctly represent one of the seven wonders of the planet Earth. I don't understand how that typo slipped through.
     Okay, I'll get off my soapbox. This typo was funny because of the sheer ridiculous nature of how it came to be. Let's all laugh at it and then try to forget it ever happened.
